How to Make Beetroot Powder

Beetroot powder is a versatile substance with a vibrant colour that can be used as a natural dye. Packed with nutrients, beetroot powder has many uses in the kitchen and the cosmetic industry. It's also used as a supplement due to its health benefits.

  • 8 beetroots

Instructions

  • Peel and wash the beetroot heads well. Grate the beetroot by hand or process it into mush in a food processor. Spread the grated beetroot thinly and evenly on baking paper.
  • Dry the grated beetroot: In a dehydrator for 4 hours at 75C. In the sun for at least 48 hours or until crisp.
  • Grind the dehydrated beets into a fine powder using a coffee grinder. Alternatively, use a powerful food processor to grind it and, if needed, use a mortar and pestle to make it into a fine powder.
  • Use the beetroot powder to add colour and even more health benefits to your food, like smoothies, sauces and soups. Add it to homemade cosmetics, like soaps and lip salves, to create vibrant colours.
